House builders 'working harder than ever' to create eco-friendly homes July 29, 2010
Builders are continually seeking new ways to produce energy-efficient and sustainable houses, it has been suggested.
Vernon Pethard, founder of newhomesforsale.co.uk, said construction workers are constantly researching better methods of heating and insulation and are providing appliances with the highest possible energy ratings.
"People are already seeking greener ways of living and new homebuilders are leading the way in innovative new ways of sourcing materials," he added.
Mr Pethard continued that builders are not stopping at low-energy light bulbs and good levels of insulation; they also intend to use recyclable materials and preserve the local landscape as far as possible.
His comments come after housing minister Grant Shapps announced that councils and developers could be given more flexibility in order to meet government targets.
Environmental objectives state that all new homes should be zero-carbon from 2016.
Builders might be able to help fund community energy projects such as wind farms, Mr Shapps suggested, assisting them to fulfil their obligations to reduce house carbon emissions.
