Olympic Stadium's roof cover completed July 26, 2010

The roof cover of the Olympic Stadium has been completed, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has announced.

A team of abseilers fitted the 45,000 sq m cover, which is made up of 112 panels of stretched white material and will protect both athletes and spectators from adverse weather conditions.

John Armitt, chairman of the ODA, said: "The Olympic Stadium is the most visible symbol of the huge progress that has been made on the construction of the Olympic Park and the infrastructure which is transforming east London."

Commenting on the ODA's newly-published Annual Report and Accounts for 2009-10, Mr Armitt confirmed that preparations for the Games are on track and within budget.

The building work on the Olympic Park and Olympic Village currently employs some 10,000 construction workers and is now 70 per cent complete.

On July 23rd the London 2012 Open Weekend kicked off the two-year countdown to the Olympics, comprising over 975 nationwide events.
