GOLDEN DAY FOR DUNLOP AND LA GRANGE TEAM
TRAINER Ed Dunlop had a day to remember, nailing three winners and a runner-up on a glorious afternoon.
The highlight has to be BROOMIELAW who defied a 715-day absence to land a 1m2f handicap at Newmarket this afternoon.
The son of Rock of Gibraltar, who runs in the colour of Lady Ferguson, had not been seen since winning his maiden at Doncaster nearly two years ago. Despite being sidelined since, connections never lost faith in the horse and their patience has been rewarded with his game success today.
Jockey Hayley Turner gave him the perfect ride and her mount travelled smoothly before getting on top well inside the final furlong to win by a neck.
A delighted Dunlop said: "This is like winning something major- we are absolutely thrilled.
"He has had everything wrong that you can imagine and many times the owners and I have considered the horse's future.
"He has always had a lot of ability but has missed a huge amount of time and you could never expect him to come back like that. I'm happy to have just got here today with him but the Cambridgeshire would be a nice plan to consider now."
RED CADEAUX made it a quick-fire double when getting up late to win a 1m4f handicap at Doncaster under Shane Kelly.
And less than an hour later, Dunlop was in the winner's circle again - this time courtesy of COEUR DE LIONNE in a 1m4f handicap at Newmarket.
Hayley Turner produced the 18-1 chance late in the piece and he ran out a ready winner by two lengths.
He added: "This was a bit of a surprise but he was once rated 104 and has tumbled down the handicap.
"Hopefully the horse has regained his confidence with this win and I am delighted for his owners.
"It's been a great day and I'd like to thank all my staff for their hard work - without their exceptional efforts it all wouldn't have been possible."
